Summary
At 221 feet, this new torch-like tower was the tallest structure in the US to employ a vertical post-tensioned system. The cast-in-place concrete core is 30 inches thick through the first 4 of 12 levels and 18 inches thick through the top of the tower. The base of the tower is surrounded by three levels of free-standing, cast-in-place shear walls, which tie into the tower core via a structural steel and slab on metal deck (SOMD). There is SOMD at every level of the interior of the tower core and on the exterior from level 8 through 12. During construction, workers were taken to heights over 200 feet.
The work totaled more than 1,000 cubic yards of cast-in-place concrete over 800 embedded plates for structural steel connections. The tower core used a Doka (pre-assembled) crane set formwork system, custom engineered for the unique geometry of the structure.
